Does Airbnb collect occupancy tax for me?

It depends on the place

Airbnb collects and remits occupancy taxes in many states, counties and cities, but not everywhere, and sometimes only some of the taxes. Airbnb's help center lists the jurisdictions where it collects. Your local tax office has the final word on what you still need to file.

Reading your CSV

  • An amount in Occupancy taxes on a reservation usually means Airbnb collected tax on that stay.
  • Pass Through Tot rows mean Airbnb collected the tax and paid it to you — you remit it.
  • Neither: no tax was collected on the stay; if your area taxes short stays you may owe it yourself.

Lodgetally's Auto setting follows these signals; switch it if your situation differs. Many returns still ask for platform-remitted receipts as a deduction line, which the worksheet shows separately.
